I hear a version of the same worry so often: “I am not good in front of the camera.” And I always wish people could see what I see. You do not have to be good at having your picture taken. You only have to show up as yourself.
Maybe you are celebrating graduation, family gathering, creating portraits just for you, or finally making time for photographs with the people you love. Whatever brings you here, I want the experience to feel personal, relaxed and a little bit magical in its own ordinary way.
Before we meet, we begin with a conversation
Tell me about the people in your photographs. Tell me what you love, what makes you nervous, and what you hope to remember. We can talk about clothing, colors, location, timing and the feeling you want. I offer styling guidance, but I never want you to dress like somebody else.
For outdoor sessions, we can choose a beautiful spot in Hyde Park, Rhinebeck, Kingston, New Paltz or elsewhere in Dutchess and Ulster counties. Maybe you have a favorite place already. Maybe we find one together. Your own home can be meaningful, too.
During the session, you can be human
You do not need to practice poses or spend the afternoon worrying about your hands. I will guide you toward lovely light, suggest little adjustments and help you feel comfortable. Then I will make room for the moments we could never plan: a child running into your arms, a funny face, a quiet look between two people.
If your children need a break, we take one. If everyone starts laughing, I will probably keep photographing. And yes, we can make beautifully composed portraits as well. Both the polished and the wonderfully imperfect belong in your story.
What should I wear for my portrait session?
Start with what feels like you. Soft textures, comfortable pieces and colors that work gently together can be beautiful in photographs. But there is no single perfect outfit. If you want something elegant and romantic, wonderful. If you feel most yourself in simple, familiar clothes, that is beautiful, too. We can plan this together.
What happens after the session?
I carefully edit your photographs with attention to light, color, expression and feeling. I want the images to look beautiful and still feel like the people who were there. We will discuss what is included in your chosen session and how your gallery is delivered before booking, so you know what to expect.

I am Nanda, a portrait and family photographer based in Hyde Park, New York. I welcome clients from Rhinebeck, Poughkeepsie, Kingston, New Paltz, Woodstock and across Dutchess and Ulster counties, as well as Beacon, Westchester, Nyack and the greater Hudson Valley. New York City and farther-away sessions are welcome to inquire about travel, too.
